As a benefit of my CSA membership, I received Obukucha from Obubu Kyoto Tea Plantations - a special New Year's tea that arrived in a sort of 'kit.' It's prepared with Sencha of the Wind green tea, a preserved/dried plum and konbu ribbon placed in each cup, and topped with decorative gold leaf.
You can read more about the history on Obubu's web site, but it's a traditional way to greet the New Year and I really enjoyed the taste and sense of decadence - definitely something 'different' to start off 2012. It's a bit of sweet, salty (from the konbu and plum brine) and the aesthetic of the plum and gold leaf is unique.
